In the recently concluded Academy Awards, Martin Scorsese received his first Academy Award for Best Director. Now, he is an Oscar winner and not just an Oscar nominee which he has been for so many years now. At last! Scorsese has been nominated 5 or six times already and now he has won it and was even awarded by Steven Speilberg, Francis Ford Copolla and George Lucas. Scorsese’s The Departed also won Best Picture.

For the acting category, Forest Whitaker, who palyed the ruthless dictator Idi Amin in the Last King of Scotland, won the Best Actor in a leading role. He even delivered one of the best speech of the night. As expected Helen Mirren took the award for Best Actress and Jennifer Hudson for Supporting Actress. Eddi Murphy who was the favorite to win was beaten by Alan Arkin for his role in Little Miss Sunshine.

All best picture nominees have also won their award/s.

Mariah Carey is currently working on her new album set to be released in the Fall of this year. Previously, she has been invited by Bone Thugs ‘n Harmony to work with their new album, "Strength and Loyalty", expected to come out on April 17. They told MTV News that the singer promised to make a song with them for the new album and that promise was kept. Expect to hear Mariah’s voice in one of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony tracks in the new album. Might as well expect them to have a collaboration with Mariah on her new album this year!

With CSI: Miami and Two and a Half Men, CBS ruled Monday’s ratings. CSI: Miami had the highest rating with 12.1/20 and Two and a Half Man with 10.5/15 rating. CBS finished the night with 9.2 rating / 14 share, followed by NBC with 7.7 rating and FOX closes in with 6.9 rating. Heroes also beats 24 this time with 8.2 and 7.9 rating respectively.

We now know that Jack’s Brother played by Paul McCrane (seen last season) is a villain. He ordered the murder of Tony, Michelle and President Palmer. Worst of all, Jack’s Dad is more evil than we thought. He even Killed Graham or Graem just to make sure he’s safe.

They’ve been through controversies, boycotts and all, but the Dixie Chicks are just back BIG TIME! Winning the top three honors on this year’s Grammy Awards: Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year, they’ve really proven that they are great artists! The Dixie Chicks also won the top Country album of the Year.

This is the second week that 24 has beaten out Heroes on the weekly ratings. It has an 8.5/12 rating share to Heroes’ 8.3/12 rating share. It’s a slight lead but 24 still manages to win this head-to-head battle. Both great shows and this is the advantage of being in the Philippines. Heheh…:) You get to watch the shows at the same day but on different time. Thanks to torrents of course!
